The Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) and the Regional School for Public Administration (ReSPA) organized on September 21-22 the Meeting of the Regional Working Group on Better Regulation. The aim of the meeting was to discuss the challenges of public participation in Western Balkans, and to discuss and agree on the Recommendations on Public Participation in the Western Balkans.
Klotilda Kosta (Director of Programs at Partners Albania), as a Board member of BCSDN, represented Balkan Civil Society Development Network at the Regional Meeting on Better Regulation in Western Balkans, presenting BCSDN regional findings and recommendations on CSO and public participation in decision-making in the WB countries. Several presentations by other stakeholders were made during the 2-day event, highlighting the achievements and challenges with the public participation at country and regional level, such as the findings of ReSPA comparative research on better regulations in WB, PPD efforts in the WB, and Monitoring mechanisms of the WeBER platform on public participation in the Public Participation Platform.
At the end of the meeting, the Draft Western Balkans’ recommendations for public participation, prepared by the experts engaged by RCC and RESPA. were presented and discussed by the participants. There was an agreement on the recommendations, with slight changes proposed. After revision and finalization by the experts, the recommendations will be presented to the governments of the Western Balkan countries to be endorsed.
The recommendations are in line with the standards of the Monitoring Matrix and can be used for the monitoring of public and CSOs participation as part of the Monitoring Matrix reports.
