Ahead of IPA III financial framework (2021-2027) being finalized, and in the light of the IPA country programming taking place, BCSDN has published an updated Opinion on how the EU can more effectively support civil society to promote the civic space and contribute to a more resilient civil society in the Western Balkans. During rising constraints to CSOs in the enlargement countries, intensified by the COVID-19 challenges, it will be crucial for the EU to continue supporting a more enabling civil society environment and being responsive to democratic backsliding in IPA beneficiary countries. We also emphasize the importance of structured inclusion of CSOs in all phases of the process and transparency and timely information-sharing, vital for meaningful civil society contributions.
