In a statement, the Serbian CSOs expressed their dissatisfaction because of the country’s insufficient progress within EU accession negotiations. They claim that the EU did not open a single negotiating chapter with Serbia in 2020, while in 2019, it only opened 2. This resulted from the deterioration of the rule of law and the lack of political will of the Government of Serbia to implement necessary reforms. The government failed to ensure the judiciary’s independence, combat corruption, enable expression, etc., that will contribute to an environment that will allow regulatory and independent bodies to be free from political pressure.
