Civil society Europe with its members and allies, published a statement to contribute to the European Commission consultation on the European Democracy Action Plan. The statement indicates that EU’s core values- democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental rights, have been facing increasing challenges within the EU during the last years, including the shrinking civic space. The impact of the recent pandemic and measures to address it has contributed to further deteriorating, causing an adverse impact on civil society’s ability to perform its role in promoting fundamental rights. Civil Society Europe also contributed to the chapter on civic space of a comprehensive Plan to Innovate Democracy in Europe. Read the related statement here.
