II.2.4. Other funding

E-mail Print PDF

According to CSDF data, published in June this year, 17, 5% (data for 2006, 2007 and 2008) of the CSOs budgets is generated from economic activities.

According to the Romanian Donors Forum, in 2008, the main private donors provided over 31 million Euros to civil society initiatives. Gala Societatii Civile (Civil Society Gala) also announced at the beginning of the year that in the 2009 competition were registered 147 projects totaling 21 million Euros (compared to 115 projects worth 7.9 million Euros 2008, and 18 projects totaling 17 million in 2007). The sixth edition of Gala Oameni pentru Oameni (targeting the private companies’ involvement in supporting CSOs projects) organized by ARC Romania and AmCham gathered 118 projects totaling over 24 million Euro (compared to 11 million Euros in 2008). The data indicates, more than a possible increase in the value of private philanthropy and CSR, an increased interest from Romanian NGOs to private sources of funding, also as a consequence of the disappearance of traditional sources of funding (foreign donors). According to a survey conducted by CSDF in April 2010, in terms of individual giving, 17 % of the Romanian citizens are giving 2% (from the taxes to the state) to a NGO - in 2009 this generated 26 million Euros. According with the same source, in the last 12 months, 52% of the citizens made a donation to a church and just 19% to a NGO.
