After two years of consultations on the new Media Law, the Legislative Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro, approved the bill, sending it to the further parliamentary procedure. Meanwhile, proposals for additional changes are permanently catching up from the civil sector, the media, and MPs. The civil sector asked for specification of the protection of journalist sources, free access to information, mandatory registration of all media, and the regulation of commenting on web portals. One the other hand, the media is focused on the Pluralism Fund, while the deputies have submitted amendments further to regulate the freedom and independence of the media. On the other hand, in the end of July, the Parliament of Montenegro adopted the Law on Media and the Law on National Public Broadcaster. Read more here.
