Challenges for Western Balkan CSOs to Get Involved in Global Development Discussed in Bratislava

The international conference “Development and Democracy”, held on October 27th in Bratislava, is a regular leading event on development cooperation in the region. It creates a unique opportunity to share knowledge, creative ideas, experience, success, and failure in development and innovation. Through stirring the wider professional and academic debate the conference tackles the most pressing issues of democratization, migration, and global development. Sharing and dissemination of innovative ideas on global responsibility is a key for our common future.

The fifth edition of the international conference Development and Democracy dealt with priorities of Slovakia´s Presidency of the Council of the EU. Topics covered were SDGs, migration and housing, innovations in development. By bringing together the international community of CSOs, decision makers, academics, and individuals who are ready to invest in the future it aims at creating innovative ideas for development and effective networking. The conference each year actively involves a variety of the stakeholders and thus actively contributes to the objectives of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic in official development cooperation by strengthening cooperation between public sector on one hand and the non-profit sector, academies and companies on another.

BCSDN representative Ilina Nesik was a panelist on a debate called Visegrad Partners and Western Balkan CSOs for Development, that discussed CSOs challenges in the pre-accession to get involved in development cooperation. The Western Balkan CSOs for Global development project also held its partnership meeting outlining the planning for 2017 and discussing advocacy nd networking events to take place by the end of this year.
