CIVICUS Monitor published the latest periodic report on the human rights situation during COVID-19, covering the last four months of 2021. The report notes various issues on which people staged protests, including those against COVID-19 measures, gender-based violence, police brutality, poor political leadership, etc. Protests regarding gender justice, equality, and reproductive rights issues took place in many countries, including Turkey. Protests on labour rights or sector-led protests were documented in at least 42 countries. The conditions of healthcare workers put under the spotlight during the pandemic were protested in most of the Western Balkans countries. In this region, the conditions regarding the economic, social and cultural rights, as well as the dissatisfaction with the developments in the area of environmental protection, were protested on several occasions.
