After the intense election period, it is time to draw lessons from messages in the ballot boxes and think about the key responsibilities of the EU leaders in the time to come. The votes express fragmentation of our societies, as a consequence of past and current policies. The increased participation clearly indicates that voters mobilised all across the political spectrum. Social justice, environmental sustainability and democracy that gives a voice to all are the main issues in public debates and in street protests in the context of growing inequalities and climate change. Europe should be a global leader through its support for the worldwide achievement of the SDGs and if it ensures effective access to rights for all in its territories and on its peripheries.
