A coalition of CSOs has issued a joint statement expressing concern about the EU’s proposed foreign interference law, which they argue could have a chilling effect on CSOs. The law aims to address foreign influence in EU elections and political processes, but the CSOs warn that it could also be used to stifle legitimate activities of civil society groups that receive funding from abroad. The CSOs call on the EU to ensure that any legislation aimed at countering foreign interference is narrowly targeted and does not impede the legitimate activities of civil society. They also urge the EU to engage in meaningful consultation with civil society groups during the legislative process. Read more here.
