Serbian CSOs Seeking Responsibility from Authorities for Breaking the Rule of Law

A group of CSOs from Serbia submitted a list of requests to the competent authorities demanding detailed investigation of the events of November 27th, and measures to identify and prosecute unknown perpetrators whose actions endangered the security and the right of citizens to protest. A series of protests with road blockages occurred in Serbia on November 27th against the adoption of the Law on Referendum and the Law on Expropriation. The worrying developments took place in the city of Shabac, where witnesses and numerous videos on social media, as well as monitoring conducting by CSOs, point to gross violation of the police legal obligations and duty to protect lives, the rights and freedoms of citizens, and support for the rule of law.
